Hidey was is my vocabulary too! And how I can relate to the realization that my family was one of the "have-nots" of the material world. When I get an email telling me you have another story up on your blog, I always drop whatever else I'm doing and go to read it immediately. It always touoches my heartstrings. I have many short stories of my own childhood and I hope you consider sending yours out someplace. Some of mine have been published but not in the Internet.
