~~*~~WELCOME TO THE ROMANCING
THE WEST BLOG HOP~~*~~
Why do we enjoy writing and reading about the
West? What is it about cowboys that is just plain irresistible? Why do I write the West? I find it difficult to put
into words.
~~The Final Frontier, perhaps? No,
that’s the name for space exploration and Star Wars.
~~Romance in Sweeping Vistas with a love story set in a different time, perhaps? That’s how we describe novels set in early Scotland.
~~The Era of the Strong, Silent type who always gets the girl while he brings justice in full measure, perhaps? That’s how we describe Indiana Jones adventures.
See? I cannot exactly describe my feelings when I begin a new Western Historical novel, either reading one or writing one. Oh! Now I know Why I Write the West! It’s all of the above, and in addition, it's...like falling in love.

ReplyDeleteHi Celia,
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaways. And why not write about the west. It's a great time period.

I love reading about the west because it's an adventure to a place that's foreign to me. I don't know how those people survived the hardships, and I know I wouldn't have made it. So, for me, it allows me to be an armchair traveler and to experience new things, without breaking a sweat or using an outhouse. I'm at maggie toussaint at darienteldot net.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about finding it hard to describe what it is about the west that attracts you. There's just something about those brave men and women taming the wilderness that makes me want to tell their stories.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy reading about the west and the people braved the land to tame it.

I agree with all your reasons for writing western romances. I'd add one more: because I grew up reading and watching westerns with my dad. They're in my Texas blood!

I love reading about the West and cowboys. The way they overcome the challenges presented to come out in the end with a happy ending. Of course the rippling abs, tight jeans, and hat help.
